Consuming too much fiber can cause serious health problems. When we consume too much fiber, it can cause a decrease in the absorption of important minerals for our body such as calcium, zinc, iron and copper by not allowing glucose to pass directly into the bloodstream.

It can cause diarrhea with foods that are very high in insoluble fiber, such as vegetables.

Types of fiber and fiber-rich foods

Soluble fiber. Foods with fiber include beans, oat bran, almonds, pine nuts, barley, cucumbers, nuts, beans, seeds, fruit with fiber such as strawberries and oranges, lentils, and grapefruit.

Insoluble fiber. It can be found in whole grain bread, corn, flax seeds, wheat bran, vegetables such as lettuce, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, chard and whole grains.
